Nicotine use, especially through nicotine pouches and vaping, has become a visible and troubling trend among teens and young adults. Whether it's on campus, in your social feeds, or even among close friends, it’s easy to assume it’s no big deal. But behind the fruit-flavored clouds, flashy devices and small white pouches lies a powerful and addictive drug with serious consequences.

Advent eLearning is proud to announce a new, evidence-based Nicotine Course designed to cut through the noise and deliver what young people really need: honest, accessible, and judgment-free information. This course will be available soon as part of our growing library of diversion and education programs.

What the Course Covers

This short, engaging course helps participants understand:

  • What’s really in a vape, cigarette and pouches—from nicotine to heavy metals

  • How nicotine affects the brain, lungs, and heart, especially during key stages of development

  • The psychological grip of addiction and how it forms

  • Why peer pressure is so powerful, and how to navigate it

  • How the nicotine industry targets youth through marketing and design

  • Practical tools to take control, say no, or quit

Unlike scare-based or disciplinary programs, this course is rooted in truth and respect. It won’t try to frighten or shame learners, it simply delivers facts and equips them to make better choices for themselves.

Built on Proven Science

The nicotine cessation course is based on the Transtheoretical Model of Behavior Change (TTM), a stage-based approach supported by decades of addiction research. Participants are guided through stages of change from pre-contemplation to action and maintenance, ensuring support no matter where they are in their journey.

Studies show that stage-matched, individualized content nearly doubles quit success rates compared to generic messaging. In youth populations specifically, TTM-based digital programs have significantly boosted nicotine abstinence, with some trials reporting 30-day quit rates three times higher than standard interventions.

A Health-Based, Empowering Approach

In line with current public health recommendations and in line with current public health recommendations and Kentucky  House Bill 142s guidance, Advent’s nicotine course avoids punitive or exclusionary tactics. Instead, it fosters:

  • Self-efficacy through practical refusal and coping skills

  • Autonomy by respecting learners’ agency in decision-making

  • Engagement by avoiding shame and recognizing relapse as part of recovery

When students are suspended or punished for smoking, vaping or pouches, they often miss class, hide their behavior, and disengage from the very help they need. This course offers a better path, one that’s compassionate, empowering, and effective.

This new course will soon be available from Advent for schools, diversion programs, and juvenile justice systems seeking a smarter way to address youth nicotine use.
